The primary benefit to learning assembly is to learn how your computer operates and how it implements the features of a high level language like C. Most of the time a good C compiler can generate more efficient code with less work, though the book does describe how to write efficient code and has several examples. The final example uses the AVX instructions in the Core i7 CPU to achieve about 6 double precision results per machine cycle.
